About Reflexology

Reflexology is the ancient art of healing by working pressure points on the feet and hands that correspond to different organs, glands or structures of the body.

Where Did it Come From?

Reflexology has been practised for about 5,000 years. Its origins have been traced from inscriptions found in a physician’s tomb in Egypt and it is believed that this form of healing spread from Egypt via the Roman Empire to India, China and North America.

Modern reflexology was pioneered in the 1930s by Eunice Ingham who, using ‘zone therapy’, showed that the reflexes on the feet are an exact mirror image of the whole body.

How does it work?

“The body contains the inherent ability and intelligence to heal itself provided it is given the opportunity to do so.”
Hippocrates, the ‘Father of Medicine’, 450-357 BC.

Following illness, injury or stress, vital energy pathways in the body are blocked preventing the body from functioning normally. Reflexology helps unblock these pathways by ridding the body of toxins and improving circulation. This restores the body’s equilibrium and encourages healing.

These enormous benefits are recognised by the medical profession, with many GPs now referring patients for reflexology as a complement to conventional medicine.
